Plans for a 350 device addressable fire alarm system for a 3 story office building utilizing a Siemens FC922 panel.

RESUBMITTING:
A. Make necessary changes and resubmit everything in person to the permit center. You may not make handwritten alterations on signed and sealed plan pages.
B. Once at the Permit Center swap out altered pages or insert new pages in EACH plan set (Job and Office). One copy of the removed/old pages from the JOB Copy will need to be submitted and marked "OLD". Do not forget to remove pages for work not associated to this permit. All plan papers must be the same size.
C. Provide a response to comments along with any supporting documentation. Response to comments is REQUIRED not optional.
- The response to comments sheet will need to include a response to each numbered comment and tell us where in the plans the comments was addressed. EX - "Top Left of Page E1-1" or "Page E1 Note 8".
- Code responses shall reference Florida Fire Prevention Code, 8th Ed.

 

1) What are the flow and tamper switches for in stair 1.  I do not recall there being any fire sprinkler components in that stair.

2) Using the corridor rules the following do not show a strobe within 15' of the end of the corridor:

  • Corridor Patient SL-BB-1-345
  • Corridor Patient SL-BB-1-335

EOR response- Strobes have been added to the end of Corridor Patient Sl-BB-1-345 and Corridor SL-BB-1-335 on Sheet FA-02.

Reviewer's response -Plans submitted do not show the added devices in Corridor 345 and 335.

 

3) I do not see the fire alarm tie in to the motion sensor switch controller per the code section provided below.   Identify on the plans. 

 

NFPA 101 7.8.1.2.2: Unless prohibited by Chapters 11 through 43, automatic lighting control devices shall be permitted to temporarily turn off the illumination within the means of egress, provided that each lighting control device complies with all of the following: (1) switch controllers must be listed (2) switch controllers equipped for fail-safe operation and evaluated for this purpose (3)  timers be set for a minimum 15 minute duration. (4)  motion sensor be activated by any occupant movement in the area served by lighting units (5) If building has a fire alarm, activation of fire alarm must activate the switch controller (6)  lighting control device may not turn off any lights realized upon for activation of photo luminescent exit signs or path markers (7) Lighting control devices may not turn off any battery equipped emergency luminaries, unit equipment or exit signs

AOR response- Added control relay for lighting to FA-03 inside TDR room

Reviewer's response- Comparing old plans and newly submitted plans I do not see a change. Add verbiage also to assist installer to see requirement.

 

4) It appears that the ceiling mount devices in the 1st floor lobby/waiting area exceed the maximum spacing permitted per NFPA 72:18.5.5.5.1(B)

AOR response- Increased candelabra to 110 located on Sheet FA-3

Reviewer's response- Based on the scale of the plans the devices are approximately 60' apart which according to NFPA 72:18.5.5.5.1(b)the candelabra should be 135. Add verbiage on the plans to aid the installer to know what device is required. FA-7 indicates 75.

 

5) Public elevators in lobby SL-BB-1-002 are indicated as traction elevators based on the sprinkler shop drawings submitted prior.   Therefore because they are omitting sprinklers from the elevator machine rooms, machinery spaces, control spaces, and hoistways, NFPA 13:9.3.6.3 requires that these spaces be protected by smoke detectors, or other automatic fire detection in accordance with NFPA 72.  Indicate this on the plans.

6) A portion of the building bridge on the 1st and 2nd floors are indicated in the building plans.  Include these sections of the bridges in your fire alarm plan and provide fire alarm devices accordingly.   The horizontal exit in the bridges is where the scope for each building ends.

7) Please label all control relays (AIM) to their functions.  Many of them are labeled on the FA riser diagram, but not all.

10) Informational Comment

Multiple control relays are indicated for access control systems.  The special locking arrangements have not yet been approved for the building permit.  FA plans may need to be modified once the building permit door hardware arrangement is approved.
