1) What are the flow and tamper switches for in stair 1.  I do not recall there being any fire sprinkler components in that stair.

2) Using the corridor rules the following do not show a strobe within 15' of the end of the corridor:

  • Corridor Patient SL-BB-1-345
  • Corridor Patient SL-BB-1-335

NFPA 72:18.5.5.6.1, 18.5.5.6.5

3) I do not see the fire alarm tie in to the motion sensor switch controller per the code section provided below.   Identify on the plans.

NFPA 101 7.8.1.2.2: Unless prohibited by Chapters 11 through 43, automatic lighting control devices shall be permitted to temporarily turn off the illumination within the means of egress, provided that each lighting control device complies with all of the following: (1) switch controllers must be listed (2) switch controllers equipped for fail-safe operation and evaluated for this purpose (3)  timers be set for a minimum 15 minute duration. (4)  motion sensor be activated by any occupant movement in the area served by lighting units (5) If building has a fire alarm, activation of fire alarm must activate the switch controller (6)  lighting control device may not turn off any lights realized upon for activation of photo luminescent exit signs or path markers (7) Lighting control devices may not turn off any battery equipped emergency luminaries, unit equipment or exit signs

4) It appears that the ceiling mount devices in the 1st floor lobby/waiting area exceed the maximum spacing permitted per NFPA 72:18.5.5.5.1(B)

5) Public elevators in lobby SL-BB-1-002 are indicated as traction elevators based on the sprinkler shop drawings submitted prior.   Therefore because they are omitting sprinklers from the elevator machine rooms, machinery spaces, control spaces, and hoistways, NFPA 13:9.3.6.3 requires that these spaces be protected by smoke detectors, or other automatic fire detection in accordance with NFPA 72.  Indicate this on the plans.

6) A portion of the building bridge on the 1st and 2nd floors are indicated in the building plans.  Include these sections of the bridges in your fire alarm plan and provide fire alarm devices accordingly.   The horizontal exit in the bridges is where the scope for each building ends.

7) Please label all control relays (AIM) to their functions.  Many of them are labeled on the FA riser diagram, but not all.

8) Remove the visible appliance from Stair 3.  NFPA 101:9.6.3.6.5.

9) I didn't see any product submittals for the pull stations and the visible/audible notification appliances.  Please provide. NFPA 72:7.2.1(5).

10) Informational Comment

Multiple control relays are indicated for access control systems.  The special locking arrangements have not yet been approved for the building permit.  FA plans may need to be modified once the building permit door hardware arrangement is approved.
