Plans for a new fire sprinkler system for a new 6 story hospital. The system submitted is a 751 head NFPA 13 fire sprinkler system which currently only includes the 1st floor and the standpipes. The system is designed as Light hazard (.10) and OHI(.15). The system is a combined 6" riser/standpipe system. The automatic wet standpipe main enters the building, travels aboveground then branches off to supply the dry system for the emergency canopy. The standpipe bulk main continues and splits to cover stair 1 and stair 2 , which are combined standpipe systems both supplying the 1st floor utilizing floor control risers. A second dry pipe system is provided on the 1st floor that protects the dirty dock, clean dock, and the hearse and panel truck loading dock. A double interlock pre-action system is also provided which covers the main electrical and emergency electrical areas. The stairwell standpipes also appears to cover the upper floors via floor control risers as well. The system is fed from a fire pump that is located in the Central Energy Plant building on site.

RESUBMITTING:
A. Make necessary changes and resubmit everything in person to the permit center. You may not make handwritten alterations on signed and sealed plan pages.
B. Once at the Permit Center swap out altered pages or insert new pages in EACH plan set (Job and Office). One copy of the removed/old pages from the JOB Copy will need to be submitted and marked "OLD". Do not forget to remove pages for work not associated to this permit. All plan papers must be the same size.
C. Provide a response to comments along with any supporting documentation. Response to comments is REQUIRED not optional.
- The response to comments sheet will need to include a response to each numbered comment and tell us where in the plans the comments was addressed. EX - "Top Left of Page E1-1" or "Page E1 Note 8".
- Code responses shall reference Florida Fire Prevention Code, 8th Ed.

1) Add NFPA 14 to the applicable codes and standards on sheet FP_1.0.

2) Provide include floors 2-6 for review. The submittal was only for the 1st floor of a 6 story building.

3) Cite code exemption for omitting coverage for the ambulance overhang. The plan states "NO A/S per contract doc".

4) Sheet FP-7.1 both stairs are labeled Stair 1 in the sectional views. Update the plans accordingly.

5) Indicate on the plans the class of standpipes. This review was based upon them being Class 1 Automatic Wet standpipes per the Fire Sprinkler Criteria provided by Benjamin D. Roseborough PE. Update the plans accordingly.

6) Provide full building floor sectional views with heads/piping per NFPA 13:27.1.3(4).

7) Callout the standpipe flow switch(es) per NFPA 14:5.6.1 on the plans.

|
8) Identify the standpipe isolation valves as required per NFPA 14:6.3.2.
|

|
|
9) Where the dry system for the emergency canopy branches off of the standpipe line (red), it must have a control valve and a check valve per NFPA 14:6.3.5.1.

10) Clarify which stairs have access to the roof and which do not, as it relates to NFPA 14:7.3.2.9 and 7.3.2.10, due to varying roof levels. It appears that stair 1 has access to the roof and stairs 2 and 3 do not. Clarify and demonstrate compliance with this section.

11) In addition to comment 10, provide a roof plan showing any roof hose connections.

12) The latest building plan revision that submitted with changes to the vestibule near registration 1354 has not been approved or archived yet, so I cannot access the plans. What is the un-sprinklered square in the vestibule to the right of the sprinklered area? Is this interior? Exterior? Covered?

Exam room 7 (1315) indicates 2 heads, when the other similar exam room have 1. Is this due to an obstruction?

14) Emergency Canopy Dry system
I see a floor drain on the original plumbing plans near the dry riser. Show the drain run to the exterior of the building. NFPA 13:16.10.4.4.

15) No standpipe is indicated in stair 3. This is required because the building exceeds 4 stories in height per NFPA 1:13.2.2.2(1) and NFPA 14:7.3.2.1. This is a requirement based on the building stories, not the stories served by the stairs. Provide details and elevation views the for stair 3. Make necessary changes to the plans.
NFPA 1:13.2.2.2
New buildings shall be equipped with a Class I standpipe system installed in accordance with the provisions of Section 13.2 where any of the following conditions exist:
(1) Four or more stories in height above grade plane where the building is protected by an approved automatic sprinkler system.
NFPA 14:7.3.2.1
Hose connections shall be provided at each main floor landing of required exit stairs.

16) Provide measurements on the plans demonstrating that the requirements of NFPA 14:7.3.2.11 are met.
