Plans for a 10' CaptiveAire Type 1 Kitchen Hood Model 5424-ND-2-PSP-F.  It will utilize listed CaptiveAire duct.

RESUBMITTING: Please make necessary changes and resubmit the complete permit application package. Response to comments / plans / specifications should be submitted to the Permit Center as a resubmission for the original project unless other arrangements are made with the Fire Plan Reviewer or the Fire Plan Review Supervisor.

To help speed the review process you should include a written response to comments summary to clarify and/or illustrate corrections on plans (bubbling, highlighting, or notations are best). Please use the Florida Fire Prevention Code 7th Ed. for all code reference in a response to comments. You are required to remove old pages and reinsert the new pages.

The numbered items require a response or plans to be updated to complete the review.

 

1.  Provide a floor plan of the space indicating the location of the hood. 

 

2) The plans indicate to use CaptiveAire model DW listed duct, unless the 18" clearance to combustibles is not met then the DW-2R double wall is required.  Which one are you using?

 

3) What is the wall behind the hood and the cooking equipment constructed of?  Demonstrate compliance with NFPA 96:4.2 or 4.2.3 all the way from the top of the hood to the floor. 

 

4) What gauge metal is the hood.  NFPA 96:5.1.  18ga steel or 20ga stainless required. 

 

5) Provide a roof plan view indicating the clearances to the items indicated in NFPA 96:7.8.2.1.

 

6) The exhaust fan does not indicate that it is provided with a hinge, hold open retainer and flexible conduit.  NFPA 96:7.8.2.1, 8.1.2.1. 

 

7) How will you ensure that the cooking equipment will be returned to its original location?  Demonstrate compliance with NFPA 96:12.1.2.3.1. 

 

8) Provide an elevation view from the hood all the way to the exhaust fan.  Indicate any changes of direction, location of cleanouts, and clearance to combustibles.  Include a listed duct isometric. 

 

9) NFPA 96:7.8.2.2 requires access on all sides by a flat surface.  Unsure what the roof pitch is until the roof plan is provided. 

 

10) Identify the means in which the fan will be activated when any appliance is turned on in accordance with NFPA 96:8.2.3.3

 

11) Vertical Duct:  Identify the height of any required duct openings (cleanouts).  If not easily accessible from the ground or a 10’ step ladder, safe access and a work platform will be required per NFPA 96:7.4.2.3.
