Plans for a 1980 square foot un-sprinklered storage building that was reviewed using Chapter 66 of NFPA 1 and Chapter 42 of NFPA 101 as Storage. The plans indicate that the building will be used for storage of small tools and trailer/ mower storage. The plans are REJECTED for the following reasons:

Identify locations of exit signs and emergency lights on the electrical plan. The lights shown on the life safety plan do not appear to be sufficient. Provide specifications for the emergency lights and ensure that adequate lighting is provided along the designated egress path. Identify the egress paths and illuminate accordingly.

Identify the storage layout on the plans so I can ensure that egress is maintained.

|
Will tools and equipment be stored on racks or shelving? If yes, then the requirements of NFPA 1:34.7.2 will apply which includes Fire Protection of roof steel and building columns and any vertical rack member that support the building.
If applicable identify the product and method of fire protecting the steel.

Fueled lawn equipment shall no be stored, operated, or repaired within a building unless the building or room has been constructed for such use in accordance with the building code.
Please demonstrate that the applicable requirements are met.

Please identify the quantities of flammable and combustible liquids being stored. It is assumed that you will storing gasoline (class 1A) for the equipment and in the equipment. The following comments are based on that assumption.

Provide specification sheets for the gas cans that will be stored in the building. They must meet one of the requirements of NFPA 1 66.9.4.1.

The gas cans must be provided with an emergency vent device. NFPA 1:66.9.4.2

If safety cans are used, they are limited to 2.6 gallons each. NFPA 1 table 66.9.4.3.

|
If you are using flammable liquid storage cabinets, demonstrate compliance with NFPA 1:66.9.5.

MAQ- Maximum Allowable Quantities.
Max 30 gallons of gasoline is permitted. 60 gallons is permitted if safety cans or flammable cabinets are used. Please Identify quantity stored. NFPA 1: Table 66.9.6.1.

Please indicate whether vehicles will remain attached to the trailers when stored in the building. Note: If vehicles are stored in the building, the requirements of parking structures will apply in accordance with 42.8 of NFPA 101.
