7. Welding and Bolting Certification: Please provide a proposal from the engineer or an approved independent testing agency for the inspection of the building steel welded and bolted. Proposal should include: (1) Visual and torque inspections procedure (2) Verification of welder’s qualifications, welders preparations, filler material, visual and non-destructive testing.
Bolt Inspection:
a. Visual Inspection: Every connection must be visually inspected to verify that all bolts are properly installed, tightened; and insure that the connection is complete. (fit up and alignment, cyclic snugging up of heavy connections, and turn of nuts relative to bolts after snugging)
b. Torque Inspection: Shall be inspected by applying, in the tightening direction, the inspection wrench and its job inspection torque to 10% of the bolts, but not less than two bolts selected at random in each connection.
Welding Inspection:
Check correct weld procedure(s) employed, check weld procedure and welder qualifications, inspect weld profile preparation, inspect joint fit-up, check filler metals and consumable materials, check correct welding performance parameters observed, perform visual examination upon completion of welding, monitor pre and post weld heat treatment, where specified, and monitor the physical examination including non-destructive test.
