These plans are for what appears to be 2 side by side kitchen hoods, on the 1st floor of a 2 story building. The plans were reviewed using the 2001 edition of NFPA 96.  The plans are REJECTED for the following reasons. 

 

The plans show details for both model 4824-ND-2, and model VH1 hoods.  Are both models proposed for this project?

 

Provide a sectional/elevation view of the hood(s) so I can verify the clearances of the duct to combustibles from the hood to the shaft.   NFPA 96 4.2.1. 

 

The enclosure/shaft must be vented to the exterior of the building through a weather protected opening.  Indicate this on the drawings.  NFPA 96: 7.7.1.4.

 

The enclosure/shaft is required to have a 1 hour rating.  Please indicate this on the drawing in addition to the listed assembly or alternative testing method being used to meet the building codes requirements.  NFPA 96: 7.7.2.1.1.

 

Indicate the specific cooking equipment protected under the hood including model numbers and applicable specification sheet so that minimum clearances to combustibles can be verified. 

 

Sheet CAP 2- Mesh filters are not permitted as grease removal devices.  Is this hood (VH1)proposed?  NFPA 96:6.1.3.

 

Provide a detail for the specific access panels/clean outs being used, with any supporting documentation.  NFPA 96:7.4.

 

Provide a plan view of the enclosure/shaft indicating the clearances from the ducts to the enclosure.  NFPA 96: 7.7.2.2.1, and 7.7.2.2.2.

 

The hood must have 18 inches of clearance to combustibles.  Sheet A3 indicates sandable grade plywood within this distance.  Please indicate how this requirement will be met.  NFPA 96:4.2.1.


If the hood is listed for lesser clearances please provide supporting documentation stating such.  NFPA 96:4.2.2.

 

Please modify the provided roof plan to show the clearences required by NFPA 96:7.8.2.1. (1-4)
