These plans are for the interior buildout of a 58261 square foot Class "A" Mercantile that currently has a fire alarm system and sprinkler system.  The plans were reviewed using the 2004 Florida Fire Prevention Code, New Mercantile Chapter.  Plans REJECTED for the following reasons:

The change from a Grocery store with shelving less than 12 feet to a Hobby/Craft store with shelving up to 35' may substantially change the existing sprinkler design/demand.

Please provide a updated sealed Design Criterion for the fire sprinkler system that is required for the building permit. We are unable to approve the plan until this information is provided. (The Design Criteria is not a full set of shop drawing.)

THIS IS WHAT IS REQUIRED BY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE 61G15-32.004,(A-J) Common Requirements to All Fire Protection Engineering Documents.

I have some concern regarding the shelving layout throughout the store.  There does not appear to be any well defined exit access isles in the sales area.  Please provide a life safety plan indicating the exit routes intended, including travel distances etc.  In doing this please verify that the shelving/fixture layout is in accordance with Chapter 7, and Chapter 36 of the Life Safety Code.  It would also be very helpful if you could incorperate said life safety plan on the final fixture layout so I may verify required egress is met.  NFPA 101 36:2.5.6.

Please indicate the fixtures and shelving within the stock room on the fixture plan including their heights.  NFPA 101 36:2.5.6.

Exit signage must be visible from all portions of the sales area.  It does not appear that the signs indicated on the plans will be visible due to the heights of the shelving.  Please update the sign layout accordingly.  NFPA 101 36.2.10, and 7.10.1.5.1.

Indicate on the drawings the intended locations of Cart/buggie storage.  NFPA 101: 36.2.5.10.

Are the front doors going to be horizontal sliding doors?  If so please indicate on the drawings and ensure that the requrirements of NFPA 101 7.2.1.14.

The scope of work for this project is in the area of an existing fire sprinkler system. A separate fire sprinkler permit is required for any modification to this system. A hold is placed on the Building Permit and no inspections will be done until this Fire Sprinkler Permit is submitted & approved. (NFPA 1,13.1.1.1)
Any reference to the Fire Alarm in these plans are conceptual. A separate permit is required by the Fire Marshal. A HOLD will be placed on the building permit and NO INSPECTION past the slab will be done until this permit is submitted & approved.
Your re-submittal shall include two complete sets of plans. Please insert the revised pages into the plan sets, and pages removed from the stamped "Job copy" set, shall be resubmitted marked as "old set" and shall be included in the re-submittal. If old "Job copy" drawings, are not resubmitted there will be additional plan review fee charged due to the amount of time necessary to review entire drawing again. ALL ITEMS REVISED ON PLANS AND DOCUMENTS SHALL BE IDENTIFIED by circling, clouding or identified by some other legible method. ADDITIONAL ITEMS MAY BE REQUIRED - DEPENDING ON INFORMATION AND CLARITY OF FINAL PLANS SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW.
