Plan is for adding a kitchen, remodel 3 classroom making one of them into a cafeteria in an existing school with a fire alarm but not protected by fire sprinklers. This is reviewed under 2007 Fl Fire Prevention Code and is classified as a modification per NFPA 101, chp 43. Newly constructed elements, components and systems shall comply with the requirements of other sections of NFPA 101 applicable to new construction.

There is confusion over the address: plan states 1214 SR 13, application states 1722 SR 13 N which is the existing sanctuary. The existing school is 1714 SR 13 N. Please verify and correct application and plan.

It appears all square footage of this school is under the same roof according to 2008 aerial photograph. Therefore the school is considered having 24,725 sq ft adding 1205 sq ft. Please correct on your plans.

Corridors are required to be rated 1 hour resistance (NFPA 101, 14.3.6)and have windows for rescue (NFPA 101, 14.2.11.1.1) unless they have a door opening directly to the outside. Please confirm if corridors are open to the courtyard and not enclosed.

In order to meet the remoteness requirement (NFPA 101, 7.5.1.3.2), the side door at the serving line will be a required exit. Those in the cafeteria are required to see this exit sign. An extra sign may be required inside the cafeteria.

An ENGINEERED sealed Design Criteria for the fire alarm system over $5000.00 is required for the building permit. (FBC 105.3.1.2(5) We are unable to approve the plan until this information is provided. (The Design Criteria is not a full set of shop drawing.) THIS IS WHAT IS REQUIRED BY FLORIDA ADMINISTRATIVE CODE 61G15-33.006,(A-F) Common Requirements to All Fire Protection Engineering Documents. IF THE FIRE ALARM ADDITION WILL NOT COST OVER $5000, PLEASE PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION.

Every unoccupied attic space shall be subdivided by draftstops into areas not to exceed 3000 sq ft. (NFPA 101, 8.6.10.1) Did not appear this was met.

Air handlers with more than 2000 CFM are required to have duct smoke detectors. If these detectors are concealed they shall have a remote visual and audible indicators located in a normally occupied space. (NOTE if there is a FIRE ALARM SYSTEM in the building the duct smoke detector must also be connected to the fire alarm system. In those cases only a visual indicator is required) (NFPA 90A,6.4.2)
